"Take us to America," said the dead women of Juarez to Smiley, the latest addition to the necropolis of sand. They want to cross the border illegally to follow their departed families, to find the American dream posthumously, and most importantly, to enact vengeance against the capitalist machine that has killed them in the first place. But crossing illegally is no cakewalk, not only because it is protected by the Ultimate Border Guardian, Sam, and his underling, Paco, but also because the borders that separated us in life have become bolder and bloodier in death.
