Sidewalk Opera, a modern-day street opera, was created from interviews conducted at New Haven’s homeless shelters and on its street corners. Composer Jana Hoglund and director Patricia McGregor turned stories to theatrical narrative, words to lyrics, and natural cadence to melody. With astoundingly beautiful music performed by a six-piece ensemble, Sidewalk Opera elucidates the daily struggle of the willfully ignored bottom-most caste of a terribly stratified city.
